Age Eligibility

2024-25 JR Girls and Boys Age Classifications and Definitions

In club volleyball, boys and girls play with their age group, not necessarily their grade level. Identify which age division your child should try out for by using the chart below. This will be the age group you will register with for tryouts.  We use the AAU volleyball age divisions.

Is my child able to play up an age level?

If you feel your child is up to playing at a higher age level, they may try out for that age group. However, the ultimate decision-maker of who plays on what team is the head coach. We recommend registering for your age group and at tryouts notify the person checking you in that you request playing at a higher age level.

  • The age determination date for Indoor Volleyball is July 1st.
  • Grade is not the primary determinant of age eligibility. We include grade in this list simply as a point of reference.
  • Athletes are not allowed to 'play down' [i.e. play an age level lower than indicated above, regardless of grade]
  • Generally speaking, we look to keep athletes in the "peer group" (i.e. grade level) when possible with few exceptions.
  • "Playing Up" - with few exceptions we do not have athletes who 'play up' [i.e. a 13U in 7th grade playing 14U].
